First of all what is a Sanitary Pad ?

Women bleed monthly from the genital area after they reach adulthood. The sanitary pad helps to dispose of the blood properly when it comes out.
Well now we know what a sanitary pad is and what is used for. But was there such a thing as a sanitary pad in ancient times? How did women of that time handle the menstruation?
When was the Sanitary Pad first used in history ?
The Sanitary Pad was first uses 2500 years ago. Can you believe it!

In ancient times they have been using cloth instead of sanitary pad in case of menstruation. It is customary to wash the used cloth and use it for the next menstrual period.
History has it that, once upon a time there was a girl and that girl was so beautiful. Many people may have tried to reach that woman. There have also been incidents where a lot Kings and soldiers went after her when she went out. One day someone like this has followed her. The woman is so angry that she throws the used menstrual cloth on his face. He ran away in fear and never followed her after this.
Women in India used fabric. But silk is used in China and paper and clay are used by women in some countries. Because all of these are absorbent.
We saw how women handled this in ancient times when there was no sanitary pad.

The sanitary pad was discovered during the First World War. How in the war?
A lot of soldiers were injured during the First World War. Doctors on the battlefield are giving them first aid. A type of cotton that is needed for first aid absorbs a lot of blood from wounds. This is noticed by a Hospital nurse. She tells all the women on the battlefield who are currently menstruating to use this type of cotton.
One of the largest companies in the United States saw this and developed a proper sanitary pad after a lot of research. The sanitary pad was developed by the same companies that made bandage at that time. The sanitary pad has been look like the bandage we use Now. After creating the sanitary pad, the company started advertising but not a single woman in the United States bought it. Because the women there are ashamed to go to the shops and buy sanitary pads. Going out and saying sanitary pad is so tough on that time. In order to overcome all this, the company asked people for its brand name in stores instead of sanitary pad. Since then all the women in the world have started using the sanitary pad.
That's why to this day we buy under the brand name like whisper, stayfree etc without asking sanitary pad in stores.
Only 36% of women in India use sanitary pad. Why don't women in India use it? This is because there are families in India who cannot afford to pay for sanitary pad every month. Many people still use the fabric instead of sanitary pad like women used in the past.
Today the government provides free food, free water and even free condoms St government hospitals. But have you ever wondered why women are not provided with the most important sanitary pad they need?
This is still a question mark in India !
